It is most likely that at some point the Art School facilities will have to move whilst the building is being refurbished and we are at the moment putting together a working plan to move to the Wedgwood Institute where we will still be able to continue with art and craft classes, and the Library and Community Hub. There will also be some workshop space for anyone or any society to hold courses and pastimes for a small fee. Starting the 2nd March there will be an art exhibition by Bob Brookes a friend and colleague of Arthur Berry and Vic Irvine who studied with them in the 1960's. Sadly Bob passed away recently and this makes a fitting tribute by his family.

4 months ago · 2Michelle Lodgewith so much to learn about copyright laws etc. why is it rarely even discussed in creative circles/communities/education? yet these things are NEVER taught in uni's or local societies etc (occaisionally mentioned in magazines and larger societies...) -why is it so, when this is such a potentially career damaging area of ignorance?! -nothing wrong with copying artists' you admire for personal or learning use, or using a character (disney, marvel, tv series etc) for 'fan art'... but making money out of someone else's creation?... -that's where the line should be drawn (pun? lol) and everyone should be held accountable to the same rules...! why should anyone be left open to being undercut and ripped off by someone who's just looking to make money through theft? i do think that he should have approached the artist privately, and given them the opportunity to 'pull' their work themselves -then if no joy, take the route of applied 'public pressure' and speaking to the gallery... it should be a simple case of if you don't own the copyright/if it's not your own work used, it should be made 'common knowledge' that this should be avoided from the very beginning -starting with artist's being educacted about this from the start... ;)

Katie Forester was a visitor to the library this weekend, Katie from Wolstanton is a PhD Candidate at Edinburgh School of Art, having completed her degree at Staffordshire University.
